China-based new energy car maker Li Auto has adopted automotive IGBTs produced by China-based Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric, according to Chinese media reports.
Li Auto adopted the locally-made components in second-quarter 2021 amid short supply of IGBTs from Infineon Technologies, the reports said.
CRRC-produced IGBTs have been tested to fit in well with Li Auto’s plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), the reports said. Li Auto needs to use 5,000 IGBTs a month currently, and the proportion of total demand for Infineon’s supply has decreased from 70% originally to 50% at present following CRRC’s supply, the reports said, adding CRRC’s share is likely to keep increasing and its quotes may slip 5-10% in 2022.
Due to continued global shortage of car-use semiconductors, China-based supply chain makers, such as Wingtech Technology, have been actively competing for orders from China-based automakers, the reports indicated.
