In its latest project for the whisky brand, Double Take Projection’s mapping installation celebrates the season of goodwill with images such as a giant advent calendar.

Johnnie Walker visitor centre lit with festive projections

Double Take Projections is lighting up Edinburgh, Scotland this festive season.

The company is curating a projection mapping installation for the eight-storey Johnnie Walker visitor centre on Princes Street that runs from sunset every night throughout December.

A giant advent calendar is among the images being projected on to the Georgian facade of the 1930s building, which opened as the whisky brand’s visitor centre in September 2021 on the site of a former House of Fraser store.

Double Take Projections also produced a month-long projection mapping installation for Johnnie Walker Princes Street in August, using three PT-RZ31K 31,000-lumens Panasonic laser projectors. The projection animation had to marry two key themes – the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Johnnie Walker Journey of Flavour tour.

The 2D/3D animation featured members of staff from the Johnnie Walker Experience performing activities such as fire breathing, tightrope walking and juggling, as well as specifically choreographed movements that showed them directly interacting with the building’s facade.
